For the past couple of years, my father closed his e-mail messages with the word, “Remember.” It was a simple request and one we honor here. Yes, Dad, we do remember…
Dad had friends all over the US as well as in the UK. Many are elderly or otherwise unable to travel. Logistics made it impossible to assemble them all in any one location. We even discussed holding two separate services. But that entails far more hoopla than Dad would have wanted.
We decided that it would be easier for everyone if we held an ongoing tribute here in cyberspace. I think he would like the idea after we explained it to him.
Each day, we learn new facts about a man we thought we knew pretty well. I invite you to leave a comment and share your memories.
By the way, we have intentionally omitted surnames in hopes of dissuading unsavory individuals from taking advantage of our loss. It feels a bit strange to me, but there’s no sense in inviting trouble.
Was so sorry to hear of the lose of your father. Although I hadn’t seen him in some time, I have many fond memories of him through the years. It made me smile when you mentioned his love of boxing as I remember watching some matches with him…he even came to my house once with Jim to watch one and we had a fun time. I can also remember him cooking many late night snacks for me and Jim. You are all in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time. As your father would have said…remember.
KNEW BRUCE AS A FRIEND SINCE KINDERGARDEN.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL I WALKED IN AND KICKED DOWN HIS TOWER OF BLOCKS. WE WENT TO MILES PARK PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. WENT TO JOHN ADAMS TOGETHER AND TO OHIO UNIVERSITY TOGETHER. HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND. LAST SAW HIM SERVERAL YEAS AGO AT A REUNION FOR THE BASKETBALL AND FRIENDS GROUP FROM MPP.

Sincere sympathy to Bruce’s family and friends. He will be truly missed here at the museum – he was a dedicated and true friend to the Cornell Museum and has left a big hole in our hearts. On a more personal note, I knew Bruce since 1989 – he was thoughtful, kind and dedicated and I always looked forward to his Tuesday afternoons at the museum – always ready to share a laugh – he really was a great guy. As Gloria’s assistant at the Cornell Museum I had the pleasure of working with Bruce as well. He was a very fine, dapper gentleman.
My sincerest condolences to Bruce’s family and friends.
As I did not meet your father, I feel I know him due to your beautifully expressive tribut to him. I wished I had known him because I sense he was truly a person you would never forget. Please find strength in your faith that he is happy and questioning all the great character throughout history.
My condolences to your family Brian.

My condolences to Bruce’s family and numerous friends. I considered Bruce to be my closest friend. What a void he has left me with his passing. Each spring since 1983 I would travel to Florida to spend at least a week with Bruce. I cherished these visits. Then in August or early September Bruce would travel North to spend several days with me. He had made travel plans to spend a week with us this past August, but ended up having to cancel those plans due to his illness.
Bruce and I became acquaintances and friends in late 1970. We spent many numerous hours together as members of the Ohio Bell Commercial Department Zanesville District. We often exchanged telephone conversations both business and personal. Bruce had such a wit and cleverness that I had not experienced in anyone before or after our initial meeting. He was also clever in some of his humorous illustrations that he often offered.
My friend has left us, but his memories will live on as long as I am alive. Thanks Bruce for all the good times!
